Lori Berd

Lori Berd (Lori Fortress) village, nestled near Stepanavan and surrounded by breathtaking mountain landscapes, is a treasure trove of historical and cultural monuments. This charming village boasts a wealth of ancient treasures, including a 2nd millennium necropolis, ancient dwellings, six churches, and 26 khachkars (stone crosses), each with its unique symbolism. Additionally, two old cemeteries and 17 tombs add to the village’s historical significance.

At the heart of Lori Berd lies the remains of the medieval fortress Lori Berd (X), situated on a small peninsula overlooking the deep gorge carved by the Dzoraget and Urut rivers. This fortress once served as the capital of David Anhoghin (989-1049) of the Tashir-Dzoraget Kingdom and stood as the feudal center of the Kyurikian family.

Preserved within the fortress are two ancient bathhouses, offering a glimpse into the daily lives and customs of the people who once inhabited this historical site.
