Itinerario

Day 1Arrival Tehran

Meeting at the airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2Tehran

Breakfast. Walk through the city of Tehran. We devote the whole day to discover the Iranian capital, located at the feet of the Elburz mountain at 1200 meters above sea level. Visit the major museums of Tehran including the Golestan Palace, built by the Qajar Kings, to admire the impressive throne room, the National Museum, Glass Museum and Jewelery Museum. Overnight in Tehran.

Day 3Tehran- Zanjan

Breakfast. In the morning departure for the city of Zanjan. On the way to Zanjan we will stop to visit the dome of Soltaniehe, ancient capital of the Ilkanid Mongols, rulers in Iran in the XIVth century. In 2005, UNESCO has listed Soltaniyeh as one of the World Heritage sites. In the afternoon arrival at Zanjan and visit the city: Rakhtshuy Khane Museum, Ancient Market and Museum of Salt. Overnight in Zanjan.

Day 4Zanjan - Tabriz

Breakfast. Departure for the city Tabriz. On the way visit the very special “cave” village of Kandovan, where people still live in houses built in caves, clinging to the side of a mountain. Then visit the city of Tabriz. Very little thing have been preserved from the centuries-old history of the city; earthquakes destroyed many of the historic monuments of the city. However, the city maintains some ancient places and buildings of undoubted charm and interest. One of the important monuments that have been survived is the Cittadella Tabriz. Other interesting constructions are the Kabud Mosque or “Blue Mosque” built in 1465, the Grand Bazaar, since ancient times one of the main trading places of the Middle East, Alisha Fortress and Azerbaijan Museum. Overnight in Tabriz.

Day 5Tabriz - Nordooz - Meghri – Goris

Breakfast. Early morning hike in Siyah Bisheh (Chalderan), visit the St. Thaddo Cathedral after leaving for Jolfa and visit the Armenian monastery of St. Stephanus, dating back to the IVX century and recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The monastery would conserve human remains attributed to Saint John the Baptist. After here transfer to Noradooz, border between Iran and Armenia. Meeting with the Armenian guide and coach and departure for the city of Goris. On the way stop to visit the village Khndzoresk (cave town). People have been living in the caves till 19th century, so the tracks are alive. Dinner and overnight in Goris.

Day 6Goris – Tatev- Noravank – Areni - Yerevan

Breakfast. In the morning, the longest cable car of the world (5700 m) takes you to the magnificent Tatev monastery (9th-13th centuries), a former center for sciences and arts, where many of the prominent famous Armenians lived and worked many centuries ago. The Tatev complex consists of three churches, a refectory, and a library. Lunch in a local restaurant. Our next stop is the wonderful monastic complex of Novarank (12th / 13th century) placed in a spectacular position on the edge of a precipice. Visit Areni winery to taste the local wines. Departure for Yerevan. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 7Yerevan City tour – Ejmiatsin – Zvartnoc - Yerevan

Breakfast. We will start the tour with the tour in the capital of Armenia: Yerevan. For ages this city has been known as a “pink city” because of the color of the stone it has been built with. So we will visit Republic square, Mashtoc Avenue, the House of Opera and Ballet after Aram Khachatryan, the park “Cascad”. Then we will visit the Manuscript Museum of Armenia, which is called Matenadaran; here all ancient Armenian Manuscripts are kept. Then we will continue to Ararat Cognac Factory to taste Armenain world famous cognac. We will also have a stop at Genocide Memorial lunch during the visits. We will start the excursion to centuries-old monuments Ejmiatsin and Zvartnots. These sites are listed on UNESCO World Heritage list. The Cathedral of Ejmiatsin, founded in 303, is the official residence of the Catholicos of Armenia. We’ll continue the trip to Zvartnots Temple, which was built on 7th century by Nerses Builder Catholicos. Drive back to Yerevan. Dinner at a nice restaurant. Overnight.

Day 8Yerevan – Garni – Geghard - Yerevan

Breakfast. Take trip to Garni. This Pagan Temple was built in the 1st century AD. It is the only temple that has been preserves from the Pagan times in Armenia. It was devoted to the god Mihr, who was the god of cleanness. In 1679 it was destroyed by earthquake. In the 1975 the Temple was restored. Then we will continue our trip to Geghard Monastery. Its name came from the legendary lance that was used to pierce the body of Christ. It has been kept here for centuries. Though the exact foundation of the monastery is unknown, the present complex was built in the mid – 13th century. Afterwards we will a local house where you will have the chance to see and participate in the preparation of Armenian national bread: lavash. It is a very thin, usually sold in very large forms. It is usually cooked in a ground oven: “tonir”. In 2015 it has been inscribed in UNESCO intangible heritage list. Here we will enjoy the “Armenian fast food” with lavash and cheese. Lunch. Visit the Rugs factory which is called “Megerian carpets”. The Megerian family has been involved in the sale, restoration and production of high-quality carpets for more than four generations. Here you can have the opportunity not only to see unique examples of handmade carpets, but also to look the carpet weaving process. Dinner in the factory restaurant. Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 9Yerevan-Sevan-Dilijan

Breakfast. Trip to Lake Sevan which is one of the largest lakes in the world. It stands out with its sweet and blue water. Here we can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the beautiful lake. Then we will visit Sevanavank Monastery which is situated on Sevan Peninsula. There are 2 monasteries actually; one of them is destroyed but the other stands still. They have been built in the Middle Ages, around 10th century. Drive to Dilijan. Visit the sights of the old city of Dilijan. Lunch in a local restaurant. Visit the ancient Sharambeyan street with shops and museums of crafts. Visit the Haghartsin Monastery (10th-13th centuries), an evident example of the harmony of nature with architecture. There are a number of very interesting khachkars (huge carved stone crosses) in the monastery. Dinner and overnight in Dilijan.

Day 10Dilijan-Sanahin-Haghpat-Sadakhlo-Tbilisi

Breakfast. Excursion to the region of Alaverdi where we will visit two fabolous monuments of Armenian architecture of 12th-14th centuries – Sanahin and Haghpat monasteries (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Sanahin was built by Armenian princes from Constantinople in the 900s, and Haghpat, was founded during the reign of Ashot III of the Bagratuni dynasty. The oldest structure of the monastery was built by Queen Khosrvanuch in 977-991 and was called the Church of Saint Cross. Lunch in a local restaurant. Continue to the Georgian border Sadakhlo. Meet the local guide of Georgia, change the coach and continue the tour in Georgia. Arrival at Tbilisi. Check in the hotel. Dinner at a Georgian restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 11Tbilisi

Breakfast. City tour in Tbilisi. The name Tbilisi derives from the name of the sources of sulfur. The journey to Tbilisi starts from the old part of the city. Visit to the old sulfur baths, Georgian Orthodox and Armenian apostolic churches, Jewish synagogue and Turkish mosque. You can also visit the largest cathedral in Caucasus, Tbilisi Sameba. The trip includes the visits to Metekhi Church on the rock, which was built in the twelfth century and has several stories related to the Mongol invasions and political repressions of the Soviet Union and the colorful Derjani palace on the rock, similar to the swallow’s nest. Lunch in a restaurant. Visit the Orthodox Church Narikala St. Nicolas, church is decorated with the biblical frescoes. Narikala fortress is situated near the church. From here, by walking we reach the 12th century Armenian church St. Gregory and the Jewish synagogue. On the opposite side is the church Sioni. While walking we can also visit the oldest church in Tbilisi, Anchiskhati church. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight in Tbilisi

Day 12Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Ananuri – Kazbegi

Breakfast. Departure to the ancient capital and the religious center of Georgia, Mtskheta, with its historical monuments: Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (both included in the UNESCO World Heritage). Lunch and wine tasting in the “Chamber of Georgian wine”. Then we will get the Ananuri Complex (17th century) and the Acqua Jivali basin. The scenery is very beautiful and the journey that goes up towards the mountains of the Caucasus, suggestive. Finally we arrive at Gudauri, a famous ski resort. Dinner and overnight in the “Rooms” hotel in Kazbegi.

Day 13Kazbegi – Triniti Church of Gergeti – Tbilisi

Breakfast. From Kazbegi, the regional capital, an uphill journey of about an hour and a half passes through a landscape of valleys and mountains to the Trinity Church of Gergeti, at 2170 meters. * In favourable climatic conditions it is possible to see one of the highest peaks in Caucasus, Mount Kazbegi (5047 mt), the name of which means “frozen peak”.
Before returning to Tbilisi visit the Gveleti waterfalls and Dariali Gorge gorges. Dinner in a restaurant in Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 14Tbilisi – Telavi - Tsinandali – Sighnaghi – Tbilisi

Breakfast. We leave for the region of Kakheti where we will visit the palace-museum belonging to the poet and prince Alexander Chavchavadze in the 19th century, where we can taste 5 types of wine. Visit the convent of the Sisters of Bodbe, located 2 km from Sighnaghi which is a place of pilgrimage thanks to its link with St. Nino, and the historical and ethnographic museum of Signaghi which contains 16 paintings by the famous Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani. In the evening return to Tbilisi. Dinner at a restaurant with folk music. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 15Departure

Breakfast and transfer to the hotel.
