Azat River

Geographically Azat is the left tributary of Araks river. The river starts from the south-western slope of Geghama ridge. The total channel length  is 55kms. The locals use the water of the river for irrigation.

Among the attractions located on the bank of the river stand out: Geghard monastery (upper reaches) and Garni temple (right bank). At the beginning of this century the river was included in the UNESCO list of protected objects.
