Aksel Bakunts was not only a writer, translator, public activist, and agronomist but he also collaborated with Hayfilm in 1930s and wrote screenplays for the Armenian cinema industry. Among those films are Սև Թևի Տակ (Under the Black Arm) and the documentary Արևի Զավակ (Son of the Sun) in 1930. In 1938 he and Amo Bek-Nazaryan made the film Զանգեզուր (Zangezur), which was devoted to his people’s struggle for freedom.
The Museum of Aksel Bakunts in Goris offers an outdoor cinema experience under the stars in a beautiful and unusual location. Visitors will have the opportunity to spend the evening in the garden formerly owned by the Bakunts family, next to one of Armenia’s most charming and well-preserved 19th-century homes.
