This special tour gives you opportunity to travel through the ages the bearers of which are the oldest stones. Armenia has a history of millennia and during these long ages Armenians have always been creating, constructing, developing and innovating their country and their life. The stones and the earth have been the silent witnesses of this endless history. So you have an exceptional chance to listen to the silent evidence of the earth.
Day 1: Arrive
Arrival at the Zvartnoc International airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Yerevan – Geghard - Yerevan
Visit to Geological museum of Yerevan and drive to Kotayq region. Here one can visit the geological monuments of volcanic and exogenous origin: columnar basalts, large landforms, aeolian recesses, the results of denudation and grottoes, the landslides near the village of Voghchaberd. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 3: Yerevan – Exvard – Ashtarak – Saghmosavank – Hamberd - Yerevan
There is an opportunity to explore the following geological monuments : Tagavoranist slagcone, young ruptures, the picturesque canyon of the river Kasakh, Aragats Volcano and the ‘’Baslatic sun’’. Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 4: Yerevan - Khor Virap – Areni - Noravank - Jermuk
Here one can aquaint oneself with the following monuments of tectonic and exogenous origin, the Jokhadzor Gorge. Gentle layers, and folds in Paleozoic deposints, the fault and a tectoniclake near the village of Yelpin, the canyon of the Gnishik River and the karts caves in the gorge of the Arpa and Gnishik rivers. Overnight in Jermuk.
Day 5: Jermuk – Sisian – Vorotnavank – Tatev - Goris
There is an opportunity to visit the following geological monuments: the “Shaki” waterwall,termal springs, the “Dinosaur” volcanic bomb, the lava well, the mineral spring and travertine “waterfall”, old Goris, exotic towers and pyramids and the picturesque canyon of the Arpa River with a series of geological monuments. Overnight in Goris.
Day 6: Goris – Kapan – Meghri - Goris
One can visit the following sites: the natural tunnel on the road Goris-Kapan, Artsvanik agate deposit, Barabatoum quartz porphyrites with dipyramidal quartz and hornblende, the “Elephant calves” bas-relief, the platan grove, and Kajaran copper- molybdenum deposit. There is an opportunity to view the vivid gorge of the Vokhchi river, Mounth Khustup, the snow-capped summit of Mouth Kaputjugh and the majestic panorama of the Zangezour mountain ridge from the Meghri mountain pass. Overnight in Goris.
Day 7: Goris – Airivank – Noraduz – Martuni - Villaggio Lchashen - Dilijan
Along this route one can observe chingils and sublateral lacustrine sediments near the village of Lchashen, ascend to the top of the volcano to see the crater lake, view the Ishxanasar active fault and the displaced cone of Khonarasar Volcano. Overnight in Dilijan.
Day 8: Dilijan – Ijevan - Alaverdi
This is opportunity on this route to visit and view the following geological monuments : obisidian near the village of Jraber, picturesque pebbling on the lakeshore and the results of the lake’s wave action, the ‘’Dranken forest’’, motely conglomerates and the landslides near the village of Haghartsin, the Ijevan amethyst deposit and agates near the village of Sarigjugh. Overnight in Alaverdi.
Day 9: Alaverdi – Haghpat - Spitak - Vanadzor -Yerevan
This is an opportunity to visit and observe the following geological monuments: the traces of the 1988 Spitak earthquake, the Lalvar River waterfalls, the Alaverdi copper deposit, the zonal diabase dikes and the Teghout turqoise deposit. Overnight in Yerevan.
